Kikkoen

The history of "Kikkoen" the exclusive farm of the Tachibana family, begins after the Meiji Restoration. In order to promote agriculture in the region, Lord Kanji, the 14th Earl of the Tachibana family, established an agricultural experiment station in Yanagawa, where various crops were collected from home and abroad, studied whether they were suitable for the Yanagawa area, and continued to improve the varieties.
The first early ripening mikan in Japan, called "Miyagawa Wase" was discovered at a fair held at the test center.
Later, in 1936, the 15th Earl of Miyagawa, Lord Kantoku, cultivated a mountainous area in Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and established "Kikkoen" in order to promote the early ripening Miyagawa Wase Unshu Mikan.
At this garden, visitors can pick mandarin oranges and experience Satoyama at the adjacent campground.
