SHINGU TOWN
Hanagurise and Hanadura Peninsula seen from near the Ainoshima Tumiishiduka Mounds
Hashikurise (a.k.a. Megane Iwa) is a 20-meter-high rock that rises out of the sea and has a large hole in the center due to wave erosion.
On the nose peninsula, the remains of the crater where the island was formed can be seen. The columnar joints that form when magma cools and hardens can also be observed, creating a unique landscape.
The Aijima Sekiseki Mounds, located near where the photo was taken, are a group of burial mounds built between the 4th and 7th centuries. Approximately 250 stone mounds have been confirmed, half of which are square mounds and the other half are round mounds. The main body of the mound is constructed in various forms, including a box-shaped stone coffin, a pit-type side-gate stone chamber, and a side-hole stone chamber.
