In the 9th year of the 9th sexagenary cycle (200), Emperor Nakai went down to Kyushu with Empress Jingu to conquer the Kumaso in Hyuga Province, and founded the Kashihimiya Shrine of Tsukushi (present-day Kashimiya Shrine in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City). However, Empress Jingu received an oracle to defeat the Silla and disobeyed it, resulting in her death at this location. The Yamada-eup Saigu was built by Empress Jingu to mourn her husband, Emperor Nakai. There is a large ginkgo tree in the precincts of the shrine, and visitors can enjoy the yellow carpet of fallen leaves in autumn.
